Foundation Behaviors
- sit, down, stay, wait, recall, good manners
- Confidence- a dog is self-assured
- Optimism- a dog that looks on the bright side for the best outcome: positivity
- Novelty- a dog that knows difference does not mean danger or fear
- Flexibility- a dog that readily adapts to a situation and changes the way he behaves or respond easily
- Relationship- a dog that is connected to you and enjoys interacting with you
- Focus- a dog that chooses to pay attention to you, wants to listen to you and can easily move from environmental rewards back to you.
- Proximity- your dog has a desire to remain close to you (necessary for off lead work)
- Play- creates a positive emotional state (health benefits), prepares dogs for the unexpected and allows dogs to process information in the brain in a safe context and develops social bonds
- Calmness- a dog that has the ability to switch off after being excited and where calm behaviors are the default for daily life
- Loose Leash Walking- your dog is calmly walking near you on a leash while still being allowed to sniff and enjoy without pulling or lunging on the leash
- Engagement- a dog that likes to actively participate in learning and games
- Disengagement- a dog that will withdraw from a desired situation, activity or group when necessary
- Impulse Control- the ability of your dog to resist the need for immediate gratification
- Recall- returning to you when asked
- Boundary Games- define acceptable locations for your dog in which to wait, rest or stay
