Learning Happens! Programs
The Training Toolbox
Does your dog lack confidence? Does he bark all the time?  Is she shy in new situations?  Does he lunge, pull, and fail to walk nicely on at leash?  Is she easily frustrated and lacks the ability to be calm?  This problem-solver training helps focus on your dog's individual issues to help give you and your dog tools to use in everyday life.  It is developed for the needs of each individual dog.  This is an absolute necessity in today's world.  The Training Toolbox uses relationship building concepts that we want our dogs to be able to use in the real world.  It is a game-based and fun focused for you and your dog.  See below for further information about this approach.

Training By Design
Customize your own training plan with concepts and basic training foundations (See The Training Toolbox and Foundational Training Programs).  We will work toward your goals together.

Focus and Impulse Control
Does your dog focus on everything in the environment but you?  Do you need help teaching your dog the value of impulse control?  This training will introduce you and your dog to fun, game-based focus and impulse control exercises which will enhance your relationship by helping your dog to focus on you and learn to delay gratification.  Calmness as a default behavior will be stressed.  You will have a toolbox of fun exercises and strategies that help you and your dog with real world relationship building.

Real World Recall
Develop a recall that others will envy!  Using classical training techniques, relationship development and games, your dog will enjoy being with you and come back to you.

Loose Leash Walking
This is for the dog that is pulling and lunging, and you are at the end of your rope!  Perhaps your dog is having a hard time dealing with distractions on your walk.  We teach your dog that walking on a loose leash leads to good things, and you can finally have that enjoyable walk.  Playing games makes this fun and engaging for you and your dog.

Real World Dog Training
We'll work on perfecting the basic commands and applying them to real life scenarios outside of the home.  Training will be done at various locations, local area parks, dog friendly stores and other public places to help prepare your dog for real life with you. ** This may only be scheduled after training with Michele at Pawsitive Play or after a demonstration with Michele of your dog's skills/manners.

Why is The Training Toolbox so Important?

The Training Toolbox teaches fundamental ideas that we want dogs to understand.  For example, a Toolbox concept would be "look to me with distractions"  versus just the behavior of ‘sit’ or 'down'.  Concepts such as confidence, self-control, and flexibility help to structure your dog's reactions to the world.   This is about building a fun relationship with your dog through games.  These games give both you and your dog tools and skills to help him or her function in the ever changing world we live in.  The Training Toolbox also gives you as a dog owner insight into dog behavior and training.

Here are some of the concepts that dogs use daily:
  • Optimism and Confidence- help your dog be less fearful or nervous and more able to cope well with new events
  • Calmness and Focus- let your dog focus on you instead of distractions and have calmness become a default behavior choice for your dog
  • Self-Control, Disengagement and Resilience- help to gain impulse control for your dog and develop the determination to push though new or challenging situations
  • Flexibility and Novelty- let your dog adapt easily to changes and variety in the environment
